New Indian MBBS Curriculum

Competency-based Medical Education (CBME) has been implemented in India since 2019. It focuses on creating competent physicians who are multidimensional, adaptable, and continually developing.

CBME is learner-centered and adjusts to the changing needs of students, teachers, and society. It selects learning activities and environments that enable learners to acquire and apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes to real-life situations.

Competencies include effective communication, knowledge application, technical skills, clinical reasoning, emotional intelligence, values, and reflection. These are integrated into daily practice for the benefit of individuals and communities served.

CBME prioritizes the holistic outcomes of learning, rather than solely focusing on traditional subject content.

Why is it mandatory for medical colleges to IMPLEMENT THE CBME?

NMC Act

An Act to provide for a medical education system that improves access to. quality and affordable medical education, ensures the availability of adequate. and high-quality medical professionals in all parts of the country, and promotes equitable and universal healthcare

NExT (National Exit Test)

NExT (National exit test): The common entrance exam for all Indian medical graduates, to be implemented in 2023-24, will be exclusively based on the CBME. The NExT pass percentage is going to determine the future business of every medical university.
